Hey coaches! Here are some helpful links with info about the league. Please bookmark this so you can quickly reference!
York Little League Bylaws
The York Little League Bylaws can be found here. They contain information about our organization's mission, governance structure, rules, and guidelines for baseball and softball divisions.
Little League International Rules
Little League international rules can be found online or by downloading the free Little League Rulebook App.
Part of the responsibility of the coach is to be familiar with our bylaws and the general LL rules for the division you are coaching in.
Background Checks
You will all (if you haven’t already) need to fill out a background check as well as ensuring your assistant coaches and any adult volunteer that may step onto the field completes a background check. If you send an email to our YLL Secretary at [email protected] with the names and emails of those needing a background check they will provide links to complete online.
Little League Required Training
As head coaches/managers you are also required by Little League international to complete the Abuse Awareness Training Course (must be completed annually for each coach) and the Diamond Leader Training Program (must be completed once per coach).
You can register and complete the courses online here: https://www.littleleague.org/university/training/#signup. Send your completed certificate to [email protected].
Medical Release Forms
You will also be responsible for making sure all players have a completed medical release form. Some player's family have already submitted a medical form as part of their registration online. You can check with [email protected] to verify that we have them.
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
You are responsible to ensure that each family has completed the parent/guardian code of conduct. Remember, it's a game, and we're developing young players!
Coaching Tools
I’ve also linked a sample practice plan and an example of a lineup management excel file I have used with good success in the past for anyone who may be looking for ideas or ways to track pitching and playing time.
GameChanger
GameChanger is also a great tool for tracking pitch count and many other stats, as well as communicating with your team. You can schedule practices in it, and your players' parents can sync the schedule to their calendars.
Scoring a game can be a lot for somebody who has never used it before. We recommend that you have a dedicated parent (or a team of a couple) who will manage scoring the game in GameChanger. For as slow as the game might seem, when things happen, they happen fast, so whoever is scoring needs to be alert and attentive!
Each bench should be keeping score, that way you can double check each other at the end of each inning to ensure everyone is on the same page.
